Project 116 18/07/21

You’ve hopefully read on the top menu, “Project 116” has been a long term goal of mine to drive all the greenlanes / Rights of Way on my local OS Landranger sheet 116, so this week I drew another route –

.. to take in some of the ‘lanes I’d missed / not driven (in the buggy) yet, in…

… the top right corner of the 116 map sheet.
I started with an old favourite on the way, near Tremeirchion…

“ByWay” this way 😉

It starts straight on passed that house…

Through a wooded tunnel first…

And then up the tree-line to the horizon…

Temporarily disturbing the flossies from the shade of the tree.

“Baarrhhh!” they moan as they have to move for the buggy! LOL

Out and sat on the bank to admire the view… it’s quite nice behind the buggy too! 😉

Up to the top… excuse me sheeps!

Dropping down through Sodom (great name!) this is a rather tight yellow C-road!

A bit of a squeeze!

Next! A BOAT (Byway Open to All Traffic) above Nannerch that I’d missed on a previous trip…

Surprisingly overgrown…

And then turned rather boggy… a blip on the throttle got the passenger’s side rear moving when the driver’s side disappeared into a hole…!

Uphill and it dries out again…

Passed the rear of someone’s property adjacent to the ‘lane…

… and on to the end of the ‘lane…

Next ‘lane!, starting from the edge of this barn…

Heading south-west on this map excerpt… where three RoWs meet at a car park, I’ve previously driven up from Aifft, and along the long BOAT heading south in this image, so I needed to get the pin in the board for the west route on the right of the map…

Dark and somewhat tight in the tree-lined section, but…

… after the gate it opened up…

.. to a nice old route populated with more flossies! 😉

Moel-y-Parc telly mast in the background…

At the top where the three RoWs meet… where I’d broken down previously when the coolant pipe rotted through and sheared… 😦

Down to Aifft this time… as my (COVID) absent passenger Alan said when he called in the shop for a chat on Saturday, if you’re collecting ‘lane pins, you should really do them all in both directions! LOL

Heading back down to the valley floor…

And then a pointless trip to Llangwyfan to have a look at the two BOATs there…

The first –

Is supposed to run down passed this little church, and then…

… down the right hand edge of this field… but from past experience, it doesn’t go as there’s no way out of the field at the other end…
As I emerge with my camera an old chap in a JCB Gator asks me what I’m doing, I explain that I’m only here at this one cataloguing it, and when I mention I’m only from St. Asaph he nods and wanders on his way…
Onto the second BOAT then…

To the right of the first one…
Errr…

… and then I get stuck behind him, it must be stuck in low box, or he doesn’t realise it, as I struggle to follow him without stalling!! LOL

… luckily he wanders off into the field!!

Short tarmac BOAT, but another pin in the map 😉
Onto the other end of the first BOAT then…

And it’s signposted as a footpath and has a kissing gate where the BOAT should meet the yellow C road…

That’s where the BOAT should run, up the left side (right side when I was looking down the field from the top gate). 😦

Plenty more to go at though! 😉

A gravel track (UCR with ORPA dots), leads passed…

… the top end of the long BOAT up the valley that we know as “Kevin Keegan’s” – as he used to live at the bottom end…
I was going to wander over to Cilcain to drive a UCR with ORPA dots there, but Alan pointed out it was just tarmac, so I proceeded over –

Moel Dywyll in the Moel Famau Country Park…

At the gate at the top…

Closing the gate…

Down we go…

Next was another UCR with ORPA dots west of Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd… it looks like it’s been…

… cut back?
Ummm…

… but only enough for the farmer to access his field! The rest is…

“T&S” – Tight & Scratchy! 😉

Next an interesting looking yellow / C-road with broken edges which I figured was worth a look… single track with passing places…

Stunning views behind…

Llanferres Ford next, but it was blocked by a parked car 😦

Bah! Another day…

Two lanes then that started on sheet 116 😉 but went over the edge of the map… I figured they counted though! 😉

The top one, a BOAT…

… ends in someone’s back garden! I hate it when that happens! 😦

The other one is ORPA dots, a nice drive through the woods…

Next, a ford off the beaten track…

Swung in and down to the stream…

Not much water today, good job as I’ve only got half-doors!!

It’s a bit “T&S” getting out the other side!…

Nice UCR with ORPA dots west of Llanarmon-yn-lal…

One from the iPhone…

A smashing spot for a little break and catch up with messages from one of my bosom buddies…

On we go…

Nice route this…

Nearing the end, one lane to go, as the time is against me…

Lane South-West of Efenechtyd…

Ummm, it’s a bit darker and soggier in here than I remember?! Especially on one’s own!

Opens up a little…

Phew, getting near the end…

Down at the farm at the end…
Time to head for home then…

Via my favourite car wash of course… Maldwyn Williams’ in Denbigh.

Nice and clean and ready to go back in the man cave then! 😉
A good lone wander, another ten pins in my P116 map board too 🙂
